The story of SOA.com

What is the hottest topic in IT right now? It’s debatable, of course, but SOA is right up there, even after three or four years.

So how did SOA Software, which has only had this name for about 18 months, manage to pick up the web address, www.soa.com? Surely some bright spark at one of the technology heavyweights pushing SOA would have spotted the opportunity? Apparently not.

According to Roberto Medrano, executive vice president for the SOA infrastructure software company, they checked out the address when they renamed their company, and found it was owned by a small company in Switzerland that “sold fishing rods or something like that”.

A small offer was made and the owner couldn’t believe his luck.

The company is chuffed, saying that every time someone keys in SOA in Google – an informal measurement of any company’s importance – his company comes near the top.
