Effective IT - today

23 January 2006

IT elite gather for influential summit.

The Effective IT 2006 Summit gets underway today in Wales, gathering together up to 200 business leaders from major organisations to discuss today's burning IT management issues.

Speakers at the conference include Nicholas Carr, the technology writer whose notorious article and book "Does IT Matter?" sparked industry-wide debate over the role of technology in delivering business value.

Joining Carr is Doug Richard, technology entrepreneur and star of BBC2's The Dragon's Den. Richard has 20 years' experience in the development and leadership of technology ventures, both in the US and the UK.

"The Effective IT programme is all about best practice in IT and how it aligns itself to business performance," said Information Age publisher, Tim Langford. "Both Nick and Doug are visionaries and out-spoken with an enviable ability to get straight to the heart of the matter. Although the majority of the Summit will be workshop-based, these guys will do a great job in helping to stimulate dialogue."

Also giving a keynote address is Katherine Courtney, director of the Identity Cards Programme at the Home Office. The programme looks set to become one of the most controversial IT implementations of all time, and Courtney will discuss the management issues involved.

Information Age's Effective IT Programme is in its third year. It is an annual programme of research, live events, web and print activity among senior IT executives that seeks to discover, debate and reward those organisations that are using IT to best effect in the UK. Since 2004, the programme has raised over £75,000 for charity.
