Trying to put past indiscretions behind it.
14 November 2005 Software management giant Computer Associates has embarked on a major rebranding exercise in a bid to shake off its tarnished reputation, promising customers it will focus more on delivering high quality products.
The company will now be known as CA - an abbreviation of its original name - and has invested in a new logo.
These superficial changes have been bolstered by an internal re-organisation.
"We've been in a lot of different markets and we've maybe had a reputation for not being the best in any of them," said CA's CEO John Swainson to delegates at its user conference in Las Vegas.
Swainson said his company would focus on just four key markets: enterprise systems and network management; security management; storage management; and business service optimisation.
The re-organisation comes as CA executives try to distance themselves from previous disgraces. Its former CEO, Sanjay Kumar, and a former head of sales have been indicted by US lawmakers on charges of securities fraud conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
CA was also embroiled in a long-running accounting scandal. In May 2005, it was revealed that the software maker was being forced to restate five years of its accounts, after discovering a number of "improper" contracts on its books.
