You piece of crap, take that

10 February 2006

Virtually every computer user has shouted obscenities at their system, but be warned, taking your anger out on your computer could put you in jail.

Virtually every computer user has shouted obscenities at their system at one time or another, and in a recent survey one in 10 users admitted to physically abusing their PCs.

But, be warned, taking your anger out on your computer could put you in jail. According to US press reports, George Doughty, owner of the Sportsman's Inn Bar and Restaurant in Lafayette, Colorado, is facing a potential jail sentence after shooting his Dell laptop. Doughty got so annoyed with his computer that, he put it on the floor of his bar, shot it four times and then hung it on the wall "like a hunting trophy".

The reason that Doughty is now facing the prospect of jail isn't actually because he hurt his computer, but because he carried out the assassination in front of several bar patrons. The charges against him: reckless endangerment and the prohibited use of weapons.

In police reports, Doughty admitted that he shouldn't have shot his computer, but, he said "at the time it seemed like the right thing to do".
