Japanese systems and IT services conglomerate Fujitsu reported third quarter revenue figures that were in line with the sufferings of most Japanese computer and communications equipment makers.
Against a backdrop of shrinking computer sales and a catastrophic decline in semiconductor demand, computer services and software has overtaken hardware as Fujitsu's largest business. Results for the Japanese IT conglomerate's third quarter show services and software revenues rising 3% to ¥410.5 billion ($3.11 billion).
Services and software (which now includes the consolidated businesses of ICL, Amdahl IT Services, and DMR) accounted for 39% of total revenues in the third quarter. In comparison, the company's computer systems division (Information Processing) shrunk by 11%, while revenues at its semiconductor division (Electronic Devices) fell by a dramatic 41%.
Overall, revenues for the quarter dropped by 13% to ¥1,058.7 billion ($8.57 billion) with net losses of -¥106.2 billion (-$859.0 million) versus -¥69.0 billion (-$558.5 million) in the year-earlier quarter.
