London Stock Exchange halts trading after technical fault

25 February 2011

Teething problems for the LSE’s new platform continue as glitch interrupts Friday morning trades

The London Stock Exchange, which recently upgraded its IT platform, suspended certain trading services this morning following a technical glitch.

The LSE’s Stock Exchange Trading Service and another trading system have been temporarily discontinued, after some trades appeared to have been cancelled in error.

Sources told the Financial Times that the issue relates to the market data, implicating the LSE’s newly installed trading platform. The LSE’s main market migrated to the Millenium Exchange system last week.

Two of the organisation’s other markets, the Borsa Italiana and London’s Turquoise, have been struck by outages since they moved to the new Linux-based platform. Last week, independent market data providers questioned the accuracy of the LSE’s pricing information.

UPDATE: Trading has now resumed on the affected markets. "We sincerely regret the inconvenience that today's disruption to trading has caused our customers," said LSE CEO Xavier Rolet in a statement. "We have resolved the real time data dissemination issue and our UK cash equity markets have now resumed trading."
