If Microsoft hopes the next iteration of its operating system will make up for the failings of Vista, it may be disappointed, according to one report
Enterprise adoption of Windows 7 looks to be spectacularly slow, given the results of a study by systems management company KACE.
A survey of over 1,000 IT professionals found that 83% have no plans to upgrade to Windows 7 for at least a year, with 43% of that group citing economic factors as contributing to the delay.
Those few who are planning to upgrade claim ‘avoiding Vista’ as their primary motivation, although almost 90% of respondents remain concerned about software compatibility issues.
The figures also suggest that Microsoft lost a great deal of enterprise support following the release of Vista, with half of all survey participants considering switching to an alternative operating system to avoid Vista and Windows 7 altogether. Just under 30% said they are considering Apple Macintosh, while 25% are looking at Ubuntu-flavoured Linux (ahead of Red Hat which was the target for 20%).
