Acquisition-happy content management provider picks up web specialist for $310 million
Content management software provider Open Text has announced its intention to acquire Vignette for $310 million.
The acquisition will bolster Open Text’s web content management offerings, as well as bringing with it an impressive roster of customers that includes NASA and Cathay Pacific.
Open Text is no stranger to acquisitions, having acquired rival Hummingbird in 2006. Last month, it picked up a company called Vizible, whose technology creates an innovative 3D interface for content management systems.
Two significant acquisitions have been announced today; earlier in the day, UK-based application modernisation specialist Micro Focus revealed its plan to buy Borland for £50 million.
This may well prove too soon to call, but these deals could be the first signs of the long-predicted acquisition spree in the wake of the credit crunch. It may be that potential acquirers believe the stock market has reached its nadir, or that company owners are finally biting the bullet and accepting whatever offers on the table.
