European power giant hands IT infrastructure to Hewlett-Packard in $1.4 billion deal
Germany-headquartered utility provider E.ON has signed a $1.4 billion infrastructure outsourcing deal with Hewlett-Packard that will see more than 1,100 IT jobs transfer to the computing giant.
Under the deal, Hewlett-Packard will operate E.ON’s data centre facilities and support workplace systems.

The company said outsourcing its IT infrastructure would help operate more competitively. “E.ON demands consistent, innovative and agile IT services to operate in a competitive global industry,” said CIO Edgar Aschenbrenner in a statement.
Earlier this year, E.ON revealed that it would also be outsourcing its IT systems to T-Systems, the IT services division of Deutsche Telekom.
At the time, E.ON established that systems that were “relevant to security” would remain in house. The security of energy companies’ IT systems has become a hot topic since the emergence of Stuxnet, a virus designed to affect certain control systems for power plants.
