UK enterprises show budget caution

16 March 2009

An IDC report claims projects must address crisis demands to secure funding

Reacting to economic pressures, UK enterprises are proving much more cautious with their IT services budgets for 2009. But, according to IDC’s annual IT and business services survey, there are still as many enterprises increasing their budgets as lowering them.

According to research, there is less appetite for new projects. “It is not all doom and gloom,” says IDC analyst Mette Ahorlu. “Fewer new projects will start, but projects that address crisis demands, such as cost cutting and work process efficiency with a short-term horizon, have a good chance [of being funded].”

Mette said IT and business services projects relating to IT integration, particularly merger and acquisition processes, would fare best.
