Concerns over information security are limiting take-up of cloud computing services, according to one investigation
Nearly a third of British enterprises have no plans to use cloud computing for any IT services whatsoever, research by ISACA shows, primarily because of security concerns.
The security association’s survey of global IT professionals found that 8.9% of respondents intended to use the technology, which outsources infrastructure to a third-party provider, for mission-critical IT functions, while 9.6% claimed they planned on doing likewise for low-risk IT assets.
Almost a quarter (23.6%) stated that they were yet to formalise any plans for deploying infrastructure into the cloud and 26.1% said they were unaware of any such intentions at the present time.
“Organisations need an integrated risk management approach to identify, assess and prioritise risks, so that they only take appropriate gambles with acceptable consequences or level of reward,” said ISACA strategy chair Paul Williams. “Enterprises must never crash and burn because the risk was ignored or misjudged.”
