11 innovative IT strategies for 2011
11 ideas to inspire IT strategy this year
More than any other, the information technology industry is obsessed with innovation. IT practitioners and their suppliers prefer to spend their time thinking about new technologies, sometimes at the cost of addressing old, unresolved issues.
There are times when this obsession with the new is unhealthy. Overestimating the potential of new technologies while neglecting the proven qualities of established techniques is an oft-repeated error.
However, after more than two years of cost-cutting and conservatism, it is not a bad time to consider the future.
This is not to say that in 2011 IT departments will be spending fat new budgets on the latest kit. Most predictions point to only incremental budget increases this year, and the cost containment imperative is still front of mind for many IT leaders.
Nevertheless, the world moves on, and one of the IT department’s responsibilities is to keep abreast of the latest technology, and techniques for managing technology.
Presented here, then, is a selection of innovative IT strategies designed, at the very least, to spark ideas about what might be achieved in 2011.
Not all of them are appropriate for every kind of organisation, and not all of them can be completed within the year. But the hope is that in this selection readers might catch a glimpse of where their IT strategy will be heading this year.
