Gender pay gap ‘widest in IT industry’

New research claims that the pay gap between male and female IT managers is wider than in any other sector
The difference between the average salary of male and female managers working in IT is wider than in any other sector, according to research conducted for the Chartered Management Institute.
The study analysed salary figures from 3,000 managers in the IT sector – both from internal IT departments and from IT suppliers – and found the average salary among male managers annual salary to be £17, 736 greater than the average salary of female managers.
There was a massive discrepancy in the number of subjects of each gender. Of the 3,000 subjects working in IT, just 671 were women.
Not one of the women polled was an IT director, although given the small number of female respondents this is not surprising. Of the 2329 male respondents working in IT, just 13 (0.56%) were directors.
