UK broadcaster offers training scheme focused on web and app development. Plus, Silicon Roundabout firms try to tempt talent away from the City
UK broadcaster and telecommunications provider Sky has launched a software engineering 'academy', in a bid to bolster its web and mobile application development function.
Successful applicants will receive nine months' training in Agile development methodologies, the Java programming language and the principles of mobile software architechture, followed by placements on current projects.

“As our business continues to grow and we increase the delivery of innovative products and services available to our customers, investing in the future talent of our business is critical," said Deborah Baker, Sky's director for people, in a statement.
Meanwhile, a group of technology companies based around London's so-called Silicon Roundabout have launched a bid to persuade talented software developers to work for them, not financial services companies.
The group is holding an event, named Silicon Milkroundabout, where they will make pitches to attending developers and engineers.
"Forget the banks," the website says.
