Auditors critical of IT security practices

14 March 2011

Study by Thales and the Ponemon Institute claims auditors are wary of business' information security controls

A survey of auditors by security firm Thales and privacy experts the Ponemon Institute has found that many are underwhelmed by the security provisions of the companies they audit.

The study, which polled 500 auditors, found that fewer than a third believe the companies they audit are "proactive" in managing privacy and data protection risks.

Around half of the respondents reported that most companies they audit suffer "serious deficiencies" in information security, or have failed security compliance requirements.
