Travelodge investigating data breach

24 June 2011

UK hotel chain looking into why several of its customers received a spam email from its official email address

Travelodge UK apologised to its customers after some of them received a spam email from an official Travelodge address.

"Our investigation shows a small no. of customers have received a spam email," the company said through its Twitter feed today. "The Information Commissioner's Office was informed yesterday."

The company added that it had not sold any data and, in a letter sent to affected customers, said that no financial information had been compromised.

"All financial data (including credit card information) is compliant with current best practice standards and is audited to PCI (Payment Card Industry) requirements," Guy Parsons, Travelodge Chief Executive wrote.

The spam email offered recipients fake job opportunities as brand representatives for the company.
