A newly published survey has found that, in the US at least, the chief information officer is generally the least satisfied member of the board.
Just over 40% of CIOs surveyed indicated that they are satisfied with their jobs, fewer than sales, marketing and finance executives. Human resources execs were the most satisfied, with 67% saying there were fulfilled in their employment.
ExecuNet, a C-level recruitment agency which commissioned the research, concluded that CIOs are under pressure to deliver results from people who don’t understand the problems associated with IT.
ExecuNet CEO Dave Opton said that when something goes wrong with technology, the CIO is often blamed when the business is in fact at fault. However, he added, successfully translating business requirements into workable technology is part of the CIOs work.
