Software giant Microsoft is working on a new programming language as part of its new service-oriented software platform 'Oslo', according to reports citing unnamed sources from within the company.

The declarative programming language, referred to as ‘D’, is intended for use by non-developers. An associated editing tool that will connect natively to the repository that forms part of Microsoft’s service-oriented architecture is also reported to be under development.

‘D’ and the ‘Oslo’ platform in general will be predicated on model-based programming. This involves building functional models of systems around which code is built, and is a central tenet of SOA software development.
