Satyam denies World Bank hacking allegations

Indian IT outsourcer refutes FOX News claims that Satyam was barred from offshore work after an employee installed keylogger on World Bank systems

Satyam, India’s fourth-largest IT services provider, has denied any involvement in a reported hacking attempt on international finance organisation World Bank Group.

US news network FOX News alleged on Friday that a Satyam employee had installed a keylogging program on a World Bank system at the institution’s Washington headquarters.

The breach was one of many attempts to compromise information security at the bank discovered by an FBI investigation earlier this year.

FOX News alleged that World Bank president Robert Zoellick demanded that its contract with Satyam, signed in 2003, be terminated after the supposed breach took place.

A statement issued by Satyam quoted a World Bank employee saying, “The story cites misinformation from unattributed sources and leaked emails that are taken out of context.”

The statement added: “Like other public and private institutions, the World Bank has repeatedly experienced hacking attacks on its computer systems and is constantly updating its security to defeat these. But at no point has a hacking attack accessed sensitive information in the World Bank’s treasury, procurement, anti-corruption or human resources departments.”
