Developers are currently the most in-demand employees in the UK’s quickly growing IT sector, according to digital recruitment marketplace The Search Party.
Java developers and those with .Net experience are the most sought after, while software and web developers are close behind.
Finding IT talent is becoming increasingly difficult for UK employers for a number of reasons.
The number of people studying for such roles is decreasing despite the increasing demand these same skills. SJD Accountancy found that in 2013/14, 13,060 people started ICT apprenticeships, which is a decline of 33% from 2011/12 when 19,520 began apprenticeships.

In addition, because of the government’s restriction of Tier 2 visas, business are unable to fill critical skilled roles with talent from outside the UK.
As a result, productivity is suffering. “In 2014, British workers produced about 25% less than their U.S. counterparts for each hour of work, and 13% less than the average of the Group of Seven industrialised economies,” found the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
