The boundary between IT and the business is becoming increasingly indistinct.
While the majority of business managers agree that IT is a key innovator, many feel there needs to be a re-think about how IT could better support their business and strategic objectives.
Questioning 400 business managers across Europe’s five leading economies, research house IDC observed that they are far more concerned that IT satisfies business requirements and objectives than whether it is efficient in increasing employee productivity. Considering the role of IT across the organisation, about 20% of respondents saw IT managers as initiators of new business strategy, with 40% identifying IT managers as key participants in strategic projects and 20% pointing to them as strategy implementers. Judging from that, it would seem that the line between IT and the business is becoming increasingly blurred, conclude the report’s authors.
