Natwest, Ulster Bank and RBS have suffered a host of technical glitches in the past two days, starting at lunchtime yesterday when some customers were unable access the online banking service.

The banks are all part of the RBS group, which yesterday released a statement saying that "large numbers" of Natwest and Ulster Bank customers had been effected by a "technical problem" which caused customer accounts to fail to update overnight.

The problems continued into this morning, with RBS sending a text message to customers at 11:25 this morning warning that money credit to accounts overnight  "may not appear on your balance this morning due to systems issues".

"Unfortunately we are once again experiencing technical issues with our systems and account balances have not updated properly overnight," RBS Group said in a statement. "This means where money has gone into a customers' account, there may be a delay in it appearing on their balance."

An RBS Group spokesperson could give no further detail on the nature of the technical problem.
