Equinix and Iguazio partner to drive smart mobility

Equinix, the global interconnection and data centre company and headline sponsor of the inaugural Women in IT Awards Silicon Valley, has today announced that it is working with Iguazio, the computer software firm, to enable a single unified data platform to power continuous analytics and event-driven applications at scale.

The combination of services will enable a real time solution for high performance AI and event-driven applications in maximising the potential of the smart mobility industry in Asia-Pacific.

Ride-hailing

With the advent of Uber and other ride-hailing services, these type of services have grown in popularity across Southeast Asia. In this region, six million rides were booked through platforms daily, according to the e-Conomy Southeast Asia Spotlight 2017 report by Google and Temasek.

“The ever-growing ride-hailing landscape in Southeast Asia deals with constant new vulnerabilities such as fraud and analytical accuracy,” said Jiffry Zulfer, CEO of PickMe. “By deploying on Iguazio, we are able to deliver innovative programs, increase driver efficiency and maximise the profits of numerous aspects of our ride-hailing business.”

The rise of the smart mobility industry has coincided with the the boom in the internet economy of the region. This is inevitably leading to an increased demand for interconnection, which is essential for businesses wanting to connect to their customers.

Changing customer demand

“As Asia-Pacific nations progress with smart city plans, so does the pressure for technology providers to keep pace with the rapidly changing demands of customers,” said Samuel Lee, President of Equinix Asia-Pacific. “At Equinix, our close collaboration with Iguazio is testament to our commitment to helping ride-hailing players, such as PickMe, to digitally transform the industry as the region embraces smart mobility.”

The partnership will see Iguazio leverage Equinix’s platform to ensure that customers have the demanded benefits of multiple clouds for compute elasticity. This new hybrid cloud solution should enable companies offering smart mobility to manage data intelligently and gain actionable business insights.

For example, PickMe – Sri Lanka’s leading on-demand transportation app – has used the solution to achieve better utilisation of data and ultimately deliver a more seamless door-to-door transport service.

Interconnection

Interconnection is helping to power the smart mobility movement, enabling proximity between users, IoT devices and cloud services at the digital edge. It facilitates the data transfer and analysis required for a wide range of transportation and automotive solutions, the management of fleets, trucks, trains, aviation, maritime shipping and more.
