Government CTO Andy Beale to open Tech Leaders Summit 2016

Tech Leaders Summit, the UK’s largest technology leadership conference, has announced HM Government’s chief technology officer Andy Beale will be the keynote speaker for its flagship London event on 15 September 2016.

Beale will take the stage in front of 600 technology executives as event organiser Information Age, the UK’s leading business-technology magazine, compiles four of its most popular conferences – Data Leadership, Security Leadership, Mobile Leadership and Cloud Leadership – into one mega summit.

As well as serving as the British government’s chief technology officer, Beale is also director of the technology group within the Government Digital Service (GDS), the Cabinet Office unit tasked with transforming the provision of goverment digital services.

Beale is leading the reform of government IT in support of better public services and to provide civil servants with technology designed around their needs.

Most recently, Beale delivered the radical Cabinet Office Technology Transformation programme, and established the Common Technology Services function to deliver cross-government IT designs and products.

He is also responsible for cyber security within Government Technology. And in his previous role as deputy CTO, he brought together the architecture, policy and standards, service assurance and controls, and strategic change teams within Government Technology for the first time.

Beale will share his learnings from heading technology for Her Majesty’s Government at Tech Leaders Summit, as well as discuss the current priorities in the government’s technology strategy and the latest developments in its ‘digital by default’ strategy.

He will be joined by a stellar programme of speakers as attendees are provided with an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the best in the business: the leaders who have experienced the highs and lows, benefits and challenges, of implementing IT strategies and transformations, and kept such projects aligned to business goals.

They include prominent CIOs such as Brendan O’Rourke of O2, Charles Ewen of the Met Office, Danny Attias of Grass Roots Group, Jon Baldachin of Kantar, and Andrea Powell of CABI.

On the data leadership side, audiences will be treated to presentations from Barclays’ advanced data analytics head Harry Powell, Capgemini’s head of data science Toby Balfre, Zurich Insurance’s chief data officer Simon Gratton, Marks and Spencer’s enterprise analytics head Peter Williams, and Amlin’s chief data officer Barry Panayi.

Bringing important security insights to the day will be Age UK’s head of information services Terry Willis, Nominet’s head of IT security Cath Goulding, the Ministry of Defence’s cyber industry deputy head Daniel Selman, Adrian Davis, MD at (ISC)², and George Bakos, manager of cyber threat assessment and awareness at Northrop Grumman.

Meanwhile, Jono Gillespie, CFO of Non-Standard Finance’s Home Credit Division, Georgina Owens, head of servicedesk and infrastructure serviceline at Vodafone, Rohit Sharma, IT director at East Berkshire College, and Mark Ridley, director of technology at Reed.co.uk, will bring their own unique flavours and experiences to the summit, among many others.

“We are delighted that Andy will kick off Tech Leaders Summit and look forward to hearing his invaluable insights into heading up technology for the British government,” said Ben Rossi, editorial director at Vitesse Media, publisher of Information Age. “Like any other large organisation, the government has faced many IT challenges in recent years, but it has also jumped on some very interesting opportunities to reform its technology and improve digital services.

“Andy is really at the forefront of progressive digital thinking and will join many other prominent technology leaders in sharing their critical learnings at what will be a hugely insightful day for IT executives across the UK.”
