Nominations open for the Women in IT Awards New York 2019!

As part of Information Age’s Women in IT Awards Series, we are today announcing that nominations are open for the Women in IT Awards New York 2019!

In 2018 and moving into 2019 we are determined to see the Women in IT Awards’ presence grow across the world, because the issue of gender diversity in the technology sector is not a problem isolated to the UK – it spans all industries in all regions.

Since the Women in IT Awards’ inception in 2015, we have announced events in Silicon Valley, Asia and Ireland, on top of New York and our flagship awards in London. We run two further diversity events in the UK: Tomorrow’s Tech Leaders, a careers fair for female university students, and Future Stars of Tech, which identifies and promotes the industry’s top female career climbers.

The Women in IT Awards Series is dedicated to tackling the technology industry’s disheartening gender imbalance. It does this by showcasing the achievements and innovation of women in technology, identifying new role models and promoting further dialogue around diversity among industry influencers.

The Women in IT Awards New York: Round 2

Last year, we hosted the inaugural Women in IT Awards New York at the magnificent Gotham Hall, where 550 business and technology leaders gathered as award winners were crowned across 16 categories.

The awards, this year, will be hosted on 28 March 2019, at the Cipriani on 42nd Street.

“The event in New York last year was a mesmerising celebration of female talent in the technology industry. And this year, will be even bigger. Now the word is out there, we can’t wait to celebrate the fantastic achievements of women in technology again in New York City,” said Nick Ismail, Content Editor, Information Age. “You can check out all the 2018 winners here.”

“Today I am delighted to open nominations for the second Women in IT Awards New York. Our aim is to empower women in technology and the organisations that support diversity.”

Why?

With just 25% of computing jobs in the US held by women – and much fewer at senior and executive levels – the event seeks to tackle the industry’s gender imbalance by showcasing the achievements of women in technology, identifying new role models and promoting constructive dialogue around diversity among key industry leaders.

Despite 57% of women holding all college degrees in the US, several studies have revealed an average of only 17% of women taking computer science courses.

In the US women in computer, engineering and science are paid an estimated 79.2% of a men’s annual median earnings, however, women in STEM are still earning more than women in non-STEM jobs – in fact they earn 35% more – a figure which should be enough to attract more women into STEM careers.

The Women in IT Awards New York aims to tackle this issue and readdress the gender imbalance, by showcasing the achievements of women in the sector and identifying new roles models.
