Steven Van Wyk appointed group chief information officer of HSBC

New chief information officer Van Wyk will oversee the global technology organisation at HSBC, ensuring sufficient tech capabilities for delivery of competitive customer experiences, including the use of artificial intelligence and robotics to digitise key processes.

In addition, he will be in charge of operational resilience, and managing the bank’s cyber security.

Based in London, Van Wyk will lead a global team of technologists, and will look to put in place new agile ways of working with a strong customer outcome focus, as well as developing and attracting talent.

Van Wyk joins from The PNC Financial Services Group (PNC Bank), where he was head of technology and innovation.

Prior to PNC, he served as group CIO and COO at ING Bank, as well as spending 10 years with Morgan Stanley, with positions held including global CIO and COO for the Individual Investor Group.
