Marc Overton appointed BT managing director for new Division X unit

Overton will join BT on the 14th February, from global IoT and enterprise networking solutions provider Sierra Wireless, where he held the roles of chief solutions officer and senior vice-president for EMEA & APAC.

At Sierra Wireless, Overton grew the global solutions and service business sevenfold between 2017 and 2020.

Prior to this, he served as managing director, global innovation and sales for IoT provider Cisco Jasper, after leading EMEA operations at First Data (now Fiserv), helping to transform the company from a payment processing company into a merchant solutions business.

In addition, Overton held a variety of roles at EE and Orange UK, building their MVNO and IoT businesses.

“Division X is set to be a key growth engine for BT’s Enterprise business, moving it from a telco to a tech co by expanding into adjacent services which go beyond traditional calls and lines,” said new BT managing director for Division X, Overton.

About BT’s Division X unit

The new Division X unit at BT has been established to scale up and commercialise the development of unique customer solutions, incorporating components such as 5G private networks, IoT and edge computing.

These technologies will provide the foundations to fuel digital transformation of high growth industries, such as healthcare, transport and logistics.

In addition, Division X will manage BT’s portfolio of specialised businesses, which include fixed and IP voice, unified communications and managed services, once set in motion.
