Sainsburys acts after supply chain headaches

British supermarket giant J Sainsbury’s has replaced the head of its supply chain division, where problems have bedevilled its £400 million IT system.

Sainsbury’s have turned to former Safeway supply chain boss, Lawrence Christensen to replace Martin White as head of its supply chain.

Earlier this year “teething problems” with its supply chain system resulted in lost custom. Problems in one of its supply warehouses, meant that customers were unable to buy 10% of its perishable items.

Earlier this week, consumer watchdog Which? ranked Sainsbury’s online delivery service as the worst of all retailers in the UK.

Which? noted Sainsbury’s online customers were dissatisfied with the availability of products, and complained that they had on several occasions received substitutes for the products they ordered.
