Vodafone in frame to acquire T-Mobile’s UK arm

Vodafone is reportedly considering acquiring the UK division of T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom’s mobile division.

Deutsche Telekom is known to have engaged JPMorgan to advise on the sale of the division, whose poor performance caused the company to issue a profit warning earlier this year.

According to newspaper reports today, Vodafone is considering its options. Any acquisition would certainly attract the interest of anti-competition authorities, as the combination of the two companies would control about 40% of the mobile telecommunications market.

But according the City AM newspaper, a deal might be possible “if Vodafone could guarantee the firm’s market share would not exceed a certain critical point.”
