Wet weather boosts ecommerce

Volumes of online transactions reached an all-time high in July as consumers turned to internet shopping portals in a bid to avoid the summer rain, according to a report from e-retail association Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG).

Online sales hit £4.2 billion in July, up from £2.34 billion in the same month last year, reports IMRG. Improved websites and faster broadband connections are also driving growth in the e-retail space, says IMRG.

The electrical goods sector has enjoyed the greatest growth in online sales which have nearly doubled between 2006 and 2007.
