French IT services giant Capgemini is to take over the captive Indian IT operations of German chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer.

Capgemini will take over the operations of Bayer Business Services’ captive IT service centre in Mumbai, India, and around 550 employees.

Under the five-year contract, Capgemini will support Bayer’s 120,000 IT users mainly from Mumbai but also providing local support from teams in China, Brazil, German and the US. Capgemini will provide services including application development and infrastructure services.

"With this contract we are entering into a new strategic partnership with Bayer," said Olivier Sevillia, Capgemini’s CEO for application services.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the deal is worth more than $100 million, but Capgemini’s press office could not be contacted to confirm this.
