HBOS cashpoints downed by data centre power failure

All of HBOS’s cash machines stopped working on Saturday afternoon following a power failure at the UK bank’s Yorkshire data centre.

Some reports claim the power failure was a result of the storm that struck Britain over the weekend, although this has not been confirmed by the bank.

The power failure also interrupted some of the bank’s payment transaction systems and staff IT systems, causing some branches to cancel customer appointments.

Power was restored to the data centre at 2:30am on Sunday, prompting some observers to question the responsiveness of the bank’s disaster recovery plans.
