Renewed economic fears will hit IT spend, says Gartner

Industry analyst Gartner has downwardly revised its forecast increase in worldwide enterprise IT spending across industry verticals.

The research organisation had initially predicted that spending would rise by 4.1% in 2010, but now says that it will only climb by 2.9% to just over $2.3 trillion.

“The bottom line is that technology providers need to be prepared for the worst case, where commercial IT markets stagnate and governments transition to fiscal austerity programmes,” explained research director Kenneth Brant.
By industry vertical, utilities and communications services will experience the strongest growth, at 4.7% and 3.6% respectively.
